What is a beech joining biscuit?

This is a small connector made of beechwood, used for joining wood or wood-based materials. The biscuit is an excellent alternative to traditional wooden dowels.

While dowels allow only for joining at right angle , Solid beechwood biscuits can join wood or wood components at any angle quickly, neatly, and securely. This type of joint is known as a lamello and it’s an ideal solution for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts.

How to choose the right biscuit size?
The appropriate size depends on the thickness of the materials to be joined:

  • Type 20 – for wood or boards thicker than 16 mm
  • Type 10 – for pieces between 13 and 16 mm thick
  • Type 0 – for grooves with a depth of 10–12 mm

Important! Remember the biscuits are made of wood, so store them in a tightly sealed container to prevent swelling caused by moisture.

Beechwood – natural durability!

At Solid, natural materials are our priority. Our biscuits are made exclusively from beechwood, which is carefully dried and pressed in our facility.

What about birch wood? Birch biscuits don’t exist! The market only offers connectors made from birch plywood. To produce plywood, birch veneer is glued using various types of adhesives. The most commonly used are: phenol-formaldehyde (PF), urea-formaldehyde (UF), melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF), and polyurethane (PU). While PU glues offer excellent flexibility and weather resistance, they are less commonly used in industrial plywood production. Each type of adhesive is selected based on the specific requirements of the plywood's purpose - ranging from furniture making to the building and the automotive industries.

The term "birch biscuits" is misleading and often used by sellers as an oversimplification.

If you care about quality and durability, choose proven, natural Solid beech joining biscuits.

Biscuit joiner – a tool which makes the work simple!

Solid biscuits are compatible with every biscuit joiner (also commonly referred to as a lamello cutter) available on the market, including brands like Lamello, Bosch, DeWalt, Makita, and Parkside.

Using a biscuit joiner, simply cut a slot into the material you wish to join. Once the slots for the beechwood biscuits are ready, apply a small amount of wood glue into the joint, insert the biscuit, put onto the second piece, clamp it and it’s ready!

Each Solid biscuit has grooved lines on its surface. These grooves help distribute the glue evenly across the entire connector during assembly. A lamello joint also allows for a movement of the biscuit, enabling precise and clean joining.

Beechwood biscuits swell when they absorb wood glue, so even minor variations in thickness do not cause a problem.

What to do if the biscuit doesn’t fit?

Sometimes a biscuit may fit too tightly or not fit into the grooved slot at all. This can happen, for example, due to improper storage. If the biscuit has swollen from moisture, simply place it in a microwave for 2–3 minutes—the moisture will evaporate quickly, and it should fit properly again.

What if the biscuit is too loose?
There’s a solution for that too. Apply glue to the biscuit and insert it into the slot—then join the two pieces together. The biscuit absorbs moisture from the glue and swells to fit the slot.

By choosing Solid biscuits, you get durability, precision, and good looks, whether you're a professional woodworker or a DIY enthusiast !
